The story of the widow and the corrupt judge, the Gospel for Sunday, is only found in the Gospel of Luke. The widow believed in herself and demanded justice. She believed the judge – although he did not fear God or man – could give her justice. She was persistent.
We need to be persistent. Get out the vote. Hold to standards and judge our elected officials to that tapestry of standards that flows from the social teachings of the Church.
Vote. Get vaccinated. In addition to Covid-19, we are entering flu season. Pay attention to your environment. In a crowded indoor space, put your mask on for extra protection.
In the US, the CDC reports 96.6 million cases. The daily infection rate is down. The CDC also reports 1.6 million deaths. The mortality rate has declined to an average of 338 deaths per day. Hospitalizations are also dropping.

A Call to Action

Remind your members and the people they serve of the USCCB’s Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship. While usually updated to align with the presidential election, the text outlines basic principles that are applicable in every election.
