Sister Betty Reinders, pictured above, is a School Sister of St. Francis in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She was grateful to recentlyreceive the Moderna vaccine. As part of the Catholic Cares Coalition, Support Our Aging Religious (SOAR!) promotes COVID-19 vaccination as an act of charity and solidarity with others to help prevent the spread of the virus.
"Many of us have lost loved ones to COVID-19, or know people who recovered from the virus but still have long-lasting symptoms," said Sister Kathleen Lunsmann, SOAR! President. "For our community at SOAR!, we will always hold in our hearts the memories of the religious women and men who died this past year."
SOAR! is a non-profit organization which raises funds and provides grants to help Catholic religious congregations in the United States care for their elderly and infirm members.
These grants address practical immediate needs such as renovations for accessibility, automatic doors, hospital beds and assistive devices. This assistance ensures the safety, peace of mind, and dignity of aging and infirm Sisters, Brothers and Priests.
This year marks an important milestone. SOAR! celebrates 35 years dedicated to its mission to ensure the health, safety and dignity of aging Catholic Sisters, Brothers, and Priests in the United States. SOAR! distributed its first grants to 11 congregations in 1987. In fiscal year 2020, SOAR! provided 90 grants totaling more than $1.3 million.
